The Spring is such an exciting time and brings about such hopeful feelings for the future. There is much growing in the gardens and even some beauties are blooming!
The hellebores are always the first to bloom and this year was no exception. Their stems are the longest they've ever been and there are the most blooms they've ever had - a nice feeling for sure. In years past, I've left them in the garden in hopes of using for Mother's Day bouquets. Sometimes it works, but mostly, the longer I've left them in the gardens, the more they get eaten...So this weekend, I decided to use some to make up mixed bouquets with the other flower in bloom - the exotic emperor tulip.
Exotic emperors are always the first tulips to blooms and are easily my favourite. They are so creamy and complex with their unexpected yellow centre. When they open up, it truly is a sight to behold. This year, these beauties are earlier than they've ever been. I'm doing my best to use some as I go, but most of these are being harvested with the bulb on and headed into the fridge for storage until Mother's Day!
